Hi Jinxx, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to the oped. Actually, it is good for (people?) like you to send in replies like this. I clearly agree with your remarks regarding human intelligence, especially in your case where there is an obvious "lack-of". This is clearly demonstrated by your command of the "gutter-english" language you use right up to your last paragraph. Wow! you have to write a report for school, know what; just take the failing grade now and spare your teachers the agony of reading your trash talk.
You know nothing about human values, you are an emotional person that has allowed "bad-emotions" to take over common-sense and actually let you send an embarrasing reply, an embarrassment to yourself and to the good people that honestly feel for the black bears.
People that learn how to express their views in an intelligent manner can learn to understand each other, not agree with each other, but to recognize that in this "free" country as long as we respect the laws, we have the right of disagreement and the right to pursue hunting, support hunting or be against hunting.
My advice to you; stay in school, don't worry about the black bears you have much more serious issues of your own to work on.
Calm down, in the final analysis, all the black bears in N.J. are not worth just one humans life or one pet dog for that matter. I wish you good luck and if you reply again with that garbage-mouth your response will not be published.

Hi Dave, thank you for reading and responding to the oped.
When you refer to "you-guys" that tells me you are not understanding that there are now millions of New Jersey "non-hunting" residents that are in favor of "hunting" as a wildlife, population management tool.
The "big prize" is in reducing the black bear population to a number that does allow the safe co-existence with humans, that stops the killing of domestic pets and livestock and that allows tax paying property owners, mothers and children, to enjoy the safety of their own property.
Nothing written by me is simply for "justifying" a hunt, it is plain common sense that wildlife populations, the black bear in particular, cannot just be left to grow to an uncontrolled number in a state with limited open space.
This video does nothing but show how an anti-hunter is just a big nuisance to the bear and on this day it showed aggravation rather than aggression.

It is absolutely amazing how you can watch a video of a completely docile bear and turn it around as justification for a bear hunt. This video shows exactly the opposite, the woman doing the video tapeing was extremely careless, a bear should absolutely never be approached and especially never taunted. It's all about respect and education. But it does show just how docile most bear are and how shy they are toward people. Looks like you guys are really grasping at straws if you really think that the video is justification for a hunt. You guys will do anything to get that big prize.

It's childish to say since a lot of other states are than we should too.

Hunting is homicide.

plus what the hell do you retards plan to do with all the bear carcasses!

you make me pity you! you ignorant assholes!

Everyone thinks that humans are the smartest things on Earth, well I don't.

If we were the most intellegent than we'd know to value all lives as we would a human one.

It's not right and it's not fair.

See how much smarter the bears are? They don't need a written or overly vocal language to communicate.

They understand eachother without all that, so do dogs and almost all the other animals.

Maybe there is something wrong with humans that we require such artificial things to keep us happy.

No wonder alot of us don't see the harm in knocking off a few bears. If you think about it we're destroying their homes, destroying their biome, their forest.

and if people are worried about an increase of bear attacks, it could be alot worse, just think about it. Black bears could walk into the cities with guns and start shooting us like we want to do to them!

if you want to hunt them than all i have to give you is a big F.U!

i have to write a report for school on this garbage!

H Rose, thank you for reading my blog do not know the exact name of the frog, sorry, but you can goggle the frogs and you will find all sorts of photos' with correct names. Thank you fo the concern about the black bear problems and you are correct coyotes are becoming quite a threat, attacking dogs and livestock and a few humans. Interesting though, not being as "cute" as the black bear, no one cares about them being hunted.

Hi Leonardo, thank you for reading my OPED. Well to start with there are millions of New Jersey residents, including mostly non-hunters, that support a bear hunt. Why, because the "overpopulated" black bear has shown the public that they cannot safely exist with the human population when there population is larger than available, natural habitant. Garbage containment is most certainly important as even racoons will get into loose garbage. But garbage has nothing to do with a black bear left to multiply to whatever number.
Leave the bears alone, how about leave the "Humans" alone because the people are not out there looking for problems with black bears, it is the black bears that are making headlines, breaking into houses and garages, attacking people, killing pets and domestic livestock.
There is not and in our lifetime will never be "non-lethal" bear management, any tests have failed to control wildlife populations.
I can respect anyone that just doesn't like to see animals killed, fine, but that is what takes place in our society, animals are the primiary food source for humans, wildlife is healthier than processed foods and if a person wishes to hunt and harvest their own meat then that is the legal right in a "free" country. If you are buying into the "Trophy" hunting anti-hunting rhetoric, this is simply not true, trophy hunters are out there sure, but they are a small number when compared to the majority of hunters. True trophy hunters, which by the way have the freedom to pursue as well, do not consider New Jersey a Trophy State.
Again, when you have (26) other states successfully using hunting to maintain a safe coexisting black bear to human ratio, and those states harvest thousands of black bears, year after year, and still are not putting the black bear in danger of extinction, New Jersey has been proven wrong in stopping black bear hunting and putting humans in danger.
Comon, Leonardo, just how long do you really think any wildlife population can just simply be left to grow and grow and grow, this is plain common sense, it cannot be allowed because there is no room now and each year there will be less.
As for your comments regarding DFW, you are disrespectful to professionls that you couldn't begin to match in knowledge of wildlife managment, do you know why? Because they have to make decisions based on scientific fact yet still manage to listen to abuse from no-nothings like you. Whatever profession you are in, how would you like to be challenged by someone who knows nothing about what your job entails? Now stop and think about that for awhile.
Leonardo, you don't like hunting or hunting black bears fine, say that but leave out the non-sense, it just makes your cause look bad.
Like it or not it has to be done this year and it will because Governor Christi listens to the people, the majority, considered the facts, looks at what other states (26) have sucessfully done to address the black bear isues, not the minority of anti's that tried to make a case of him allowing the slaughter of black bear if elected; he listens to the professionals that have the experience to make these decisions, not like the past administration that counted what they thought were votes while ignoring the "silent-majority" that live in bear country and face the problem everyday.
Governor Christi respects the emotions of animal-right/anti-hunters but he has the responsibility to provide a "safe" environment for the "humans" that live in New Jersey; in real words Governor Christi had his priorities in order when he "clearly" made his decision to support a black bear hunt "prior" to the election, Human Rights before Animal Rights, guess what the rest is history.

Very few NJ residents want a bear hunt. It's well known that a few so called "nuisance" bears can be dissuaded from certain areas through proper garbage containment. There is actually a law requiring proper containment of garbage in bear areas. They aren't enforced so bogus stats can be issued re: human/bear confrontations.
DFW is a fraudelent organization that is sabatoging non-lethal bear management methods to they can justify a hunt to sell licenses, etc.
Enough is enough with this garbage. Leave the bears alone. A hunt won't solve anything except temporarily satisfying the bloodlust of a few animal torturers.

I am doing some research on NJ frogs and the one in the photo above is one we found in our back yard in S NJ. Is that the bull frog, do you know the exact name? My son is doing a project for school and has his photo with a frog like that but we need to identify the name.
I feel for you with the bears, coyotes moved in around here and are catching lots of deer, but worry about all the children too.
Regards
